Why Ride?    more than 25% of all greenhouse gas emissions come from the transportation sector.   In 2005, Statistics Canada reported that roughly 86 percent of Canadians use a car to get to work. That fact comes with significant repercussions not just for the environment, but for the healthcare sector as well. By integrating active transportation into everyday activities, like walking to the bus stop and biking to work, Canadians can reach the 30 minutes of daily exercise recommended by the Public Health Agency of Canada, decrease stress,  make our streets safer and create a healthier environment overall.

• [Better Place delivers the network and services that make an electric car affordable to buy, easy to use, and amazing to own.    Electric car drivers will have access to a network of charge spots, battery switch stations and systems that optimize the driving experience and minimize environmental impact and cost.] 

Interesting: 

• It takes about 4 hours to fully charge a battery at one of their stations – Charging at home through a normal home outlet takes about 12 hours
• Since the range of a battery is about 150km they’re addressing the problem of range for longer trips by organizing battery switching stations – the switching is automated and takes about a minute
• It costs 10% to 15% less to charge the batteries than to buy gas
